XVI Congreso Nacional de Acuicultura (CNA) (Spain’s Aquaculture National Congress)

3-5 October 2017 - Zaragoza (Spain)

What is CNA ?

Zaragoza hosted the Spain’s XVI Aquaculture National Congress, from 3 to 5 October 2017. More than 300 aquaculture experts attend the event with the heading “Our aquaculture, a safe bet”, to discuss about aquaculture in fields of knowledge as varied as feeding and nutrition, breeding and genetics, pathology, health and welfare, aquariology, food quality and consumption, environment and spatial planning, production and technology, business innovations, and economics and markets.

Who where at CNA ?

The conference was attended by many of the most important European H2020 projects related to aquaculture, which have an important participation of Spanish partners. The congress has been also a forum in which these projects have been presented to the scientific and industry communities, generating a space to share the results and identify possible synergies and future collaborations.

What did SUCCESS at CNA ?

During the conference, SUCCESS played a relevant role. The project collaborated with the Spanish Aquaculture Association (Sociedad Española de Acuicultura – SEA www.sea.org.es) in the organization of the Economy and Markets session. The University of Cantabria (UC), leader of the WP4, opened the session with the presentation of the project to more than 40 participants and various specialized journals, such as mispeces (www.mispeces.com) and IPAC acuicultura (www.ipacuicultura.com). The session continued with two presentations by the UC with results about market delimitation and price transmission in some of the main most relevant seafood value chains in Spain for aquaculture products. These results are part of the work on price integration that the UC has developed in the framework of the T.4.2, which are available in the T.4.4 deliverable.

Other H2020 project on aquaculture at CNA

The other European projects presented during the conference were:

  • MedAID, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of the Mediterranean marine fish aquaculture sector along its value chain;
  • PerformFish, which shares objectives with MedAID;
  • ParaFish Control and Vivaldi, focused on fish and bivalve mollusk diseases;
  • SABANA, whose objective is to improve the production of microalgae;
  • Ultrafish, aiming at generating an eco-innovative processing system;
  • Era-ChairEcoAqua to improve aquaculture  from an ecosystem approach.
